Josh gets the Gold

Medal Success for Great Britain Short Track Speed Skater

Three Junior members of the Great Britain Short Track National Squad travelled to Odense, Denmark for the final qualifying event of the Junior Europa Cup. Josh Cheetham skated very well to take the Overall Gold medal in his age category Jun A (17-19yrs) with Tristton Adams and Billy Simms finishing 4th and 7th respectively in their age category Jun B (15-17yrs) . These results should see all three skaters qualifying through to the Junior Europa Cup final. This competition brings the top 8 skaters in each age category from Western Europe together with the top 8 skaters in each age category from Eastern Europe. The Junior Europa Cup will be held in Munchin, Germany on the 4-6th March.

Josh, Billy and Tristton have only been training with the National Squad on a full time basis since the beginning of this season, all have set personal best times in 500m, 1000m and 1500m in this time. Coach Joanna Eley said ‘ I was very pleased with their performances, the boys are starting to show real maturity in their racing, they have taken a huge step forward since they began training with the National Squad in Nottingham on a full time basis. This is a positive sign for the Junior world Championships in Italy 25-27th February and the Junior Europa Cup Final in March’
